What Will You Get?

What will you get if you place a man on a deserted island with just a BIBLE and an OPEN HEART?

Now, obviously, he will need a few other things but let's just assume that all he has to do after his basic needs have been met is read the BIBLE.

SO...when this man comes off the island, what will you have?

ANSWER? He will be a CHRISTIAN!!

He won't be an Apostolic or a Baptist or Catholic, Jehovah Witness, Lutheran, Mormon, or even Jewish. NO!

He will be a Christian. WHY???...because he had the BIBLE...and an Open Heart.

Our enemy has been highly successful in first appealing to our prideful ability to 'build a doctrine' and then give it a name. Then he has set each of us against each other and left us to our squabbles. He has the advantage of knowing that we have a sin nature and even though he won't see most of us in hell, he will be satisfied that we will be ineffective in influencing others for Christ.

The church has the potential to be an army of believers all across the world and we are so caught up in our denominations and doctrines that we fail to show the world, one, the need of each person for a Savior and, two, the name of the one God sent to accomplish that....Jesus. Sadly, it is clear that the world looks at the church and wants nothing to do with us.

So, let's look at these two ingredients. The BIBLE is a truly unique book. It is written over 1500 years by more than 40 authors ranging in occupation and education from a politician from the Universities of Egypt to fishermen and tax-gatherers of Israel...yet it all reads as from the same author.

Is it reliable? The Bible states more than 2000 prophesies with over half of them confirmed in history. It also says that if any one of those prophesies does not come to pass we may disregard the Bible altogether....quite a claim.

Many interpretations? The next time someone says to you that the Bible is subject to many interpretations, let them read John 3:16 out loud and then interpret it....then have them do the same with verse 17.

So, why aren't people impressed...why are they following Jean Dixon instead? Why are they dialing up 'Psychic Friends Network'?

Simple....we, the church, where we work and where we live... aren't telling them!! Instead we find ourselves talking about 'our church' or 'our doctrine' instead of the saving grace of 'our Savior'.

Behind the facades of criticism of the Bible are people who, if given a chance, would probably reveal an open heart. The Open Heart is what we are supposed to be looking for. When we begin to do that then folks will begin to find that Christ is the answer to getting them off their own deserted island. The Bible...and an Open Heart.
