Sit still my child
Ruth 3:18 Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
I can picture Ruth pacing the floor, fidgeting nervously and Naomi having to tell her to be still already!
If you have ever had to wait on anything, whether hospital results, school test result, acceptance letters from a desired college, a phone call from a potential job, no matter what it is waiting can be very difficult to say the least. I think we have the most trouble waiting on God, waiting on an answer, direction, or maybe waiting on the baptism of the Holy Ghost, waiting for deliverance, for healing, and even waiting for a loved one to be saved. Somehow we think that God has forgotten about us so we stop waiting, we give up or try to make something happen and make a big mess. Patience is hard, quoting a four year old who once said “Patience takes a long time!” How fast they learn at such a young age. The truth is if we want them to be patient we have to show patience too.
To be patient means to bear trials, to persevere, to be forbearing which means to endure.
To be still and to be patient makes more sense than making ourselves sick with worry and irritability. We have to trust that God has everything under control, He hasn’t forgot about us, He will not rest until the matter is solved, we just need to trust in His Word and faithfulness and be still and rest in the assurance that God is working on our behalf, He always has a plan.
Father we praise You for all the wonderful works of Your hands. Help us to know that You are working in our behalf and that we can trust in You and help us to have the strength and will to be still and be patient. Let us not fret or worry over things we have no control over. Let us not become impatient and try to do things our way because we know that never works. Give all those who are waiting for something assurance and confidence knowing that You are in control and that they can rest in Your peace and grace. We thank You for the love You have for us and the mercy You give each day, in Jesus Christ name we pray, amen.
